60's - Engg. Carlos Terra Viana dealed with serious problems of insecurity in a mine in Estarreja, Portugal. In order to reduce those workplace accidents, he created SINTIMEX, the 1st company in Portugal specialized in the manufacture and sale of personal protective and safety equipment.
It was a very tough start, but Sintimex was recognized by the portuguese President of the Republic Américo Tomás, who congratulated the mission that Sintimex came up with: Changing the employer's mentality and provide ways for protecting the life of portuguese workers!
70's - Unexpectedly forced to fill his father chair, Alexander Terra Viana was only an young student at the time when he took the leadership of the company. It was a hard and difficult start due to his inexperience, but that was quickly overcome. Investment in new manufacturing facilities to create better working conditions.
1974 - Revolutionary era, in which workers' rights surpassed obligations. Also, imports were being limited by the regime, so Sintimex pursued to develop the security world in Portugal in its new plant, which reached its peak in the late 70's with 100 employees.
80's - Acquisition of a warehouse zone in Odivelas, where were centralized all Sintimex's stocks. In 1983, a major flood disaster at national level led to the destruction of most of the stored materials. The warehouse was sold due to the new reality of the company, in which the payments to suppliers and banks were a responsibility. A titanic struggle for recovery and rebirth of Sintimex was set.
90's - Warehouses in Laranjeiro and attachments to the manufactures facilities were inaugurated. Company growth with new representations given by the recent entry of Portugal into the European Community. Reduction of investment in the manufacturing area, due to the competition market after the East's economic reform.
New Millennium - The official currency of the eurozone started running, and, with that, it was the end of the constant devaluations that were usual in Portugal since the 70's. Decade of great investment and growth. The third generation Terra Viana starts, in several ways, it's support in managing Sintimex. Full computerization of the company. The sales team were enlarged in order to cover the country from north to south. Internationalization of the company in Angola, Cape Verde and São Tomé and Príncipe. Achievement of PME Leader and SME Excellency status and quality certification according to ISO: 9001. Change of facilities, in which all activities of the company are centered neatly and it is, also, where the largest and most modern PPE's showroom is located
